Hoàng Hoa Trung, a Hanoi native born in 1990 and the leader of the Niềm Tin Volunteer Group, is widely known as "Trung Nuôi Em." He has dedicated his youth to writing a "new chapter" of hope and opportunity for children in remote areas through the "Nuôi Em" project.
Before venturing into the highlands, Hoàng Hoa Trung had experience working on charity projects in Hanoi. However, in 2009, recognizing that Hanoi already had many similar activities, he decided to shift his focus to supporting children in remote areas.
"Due to extreme poverty, some children didn’t have food to bring to school, and with their parents working in the fields, the children would often wander into the forests at lunchtime to forage for bamboo shoots. After eating, it would already be evening, and the children couldn’t return to school for the afternoon session. This situation inspired me and my team to start the 'Nuôi Em' project, which provides lunch meals to schoolchildren in the highlands," Trung shared.
From its humble beginnings, the Nuôi Em project didn’t promise grand plans. Its simple goal was to offer meaningful and practical support: providing lunch meals to encourage children to stay in school. And Trung, along with his team, has successfully achieved this.
To date, the Nuôi Em project has expanded to three countries, supporting 95,000 students across 23 provinces in Vietnam, 650 students in Cambodia, and 350 students in Kenya (Africa).
The cost to provide one child with lunch for an academic year is 150,000 VND per month, for 9 months, plus 100,000 VND for infrastructure, totaling 1,450,000 VND per year.
